No Fuss Ziploc Storage Bag Organization Ideas

Let’s talk about some simple and smart Ziploc storage bag organization ideas to improve the organization of your kitchen.

If you open your kitchen pantry or drawer and feel like you are being attacked by a mountain of ziploc boxes, you aren’t alone.

Ziploc bags—from the tiny snack size to the hefty gallon ones—are so handy, but their original packaging is often bulky, flimsy, and difficult to manage.

Let’s talk about how to fix that so you can pull together an organized kitchen space.

The Problem with Original Ziploc Bag Packaging

Most people (me included) keep their Ziploc storage bags in the boxes they came in, for simplicity’s sake.

Over time, those boxes tear, lose their shape, and stop functioning as an effective container, with the baggies easily falling out.

Not to mention that when you shop for a large pack or a high-count box of bags, the footprint in your drawer is massive and likely more than the drawer can accommodate.

By removing the bags from their original boxes, you immediately reclaim space.

Another bonus is that you can see exactly what you have, which means you’ll never accidentally buy another box of sandwich bags when you already have three hidden in the back of the cabinet.

The downside to doing away with the original packaging is that it requires purchasing or making an organizer to handle the loose Ziploc baggies.

With these challenges in mind, let’s explore different options for organizing food storage bags.

Cabinet Ziploc Storage Bag Organization Ideas

If you’re an occasional user of Ziploc bags or if you don’t have the drawer space for that storage option, then you’ll want to go with storing the food storage bags in a cabinet.

Keeping the bags in their original packaging means you don’t really need a customized storage solution.

You can line up the boxes on the shelf, but a tiered organizer will give you a better use of the space.

This is the option I use in my cabinet to organize ziploc bags.

The assortment of boxes would be a jumbled mess if I wasn’t using the rack to stack the boxes up in the cabinet.

Using the organizer means I don’t have to worry about the boxes toppling out or over one another.

I can simply partially slide out the desired box and snag out a ziploc bag.

A lower kitchen cabinet is a great option to combine the ziplock with foil and plastic wrap storage since lower cabinets are deeper than upper cabinets.

Under-Shelf Baskets

Make use of the vertical space inside your cabinets by adding under-shelf baskets.

These baskets can easily hold boxes of ziploc, making it easy to grab what you need without having to sift through anything to find what you need.

Storing Ziploc Baggies in a Drawer

There’s nothing wrong at all with storing boxes of ziploc bags in a drawer in their original packaging!

Don’t feel like you have to purchase an organizer.

Sometime kitchens are blessed with ample drawer space so that drawer storage makes the most sense.

Use a Dedicated Ziploc Bag Organizer

A popular ziploc storage bag organization method is a bamboo or plastic bag organizer.

These units typically have slots labeled for snack, sandwich, quart, and gallon sizes, so there’s no mistaking what’s in each part of the organizer..

This type of organizer is a game-changer for drawer storage.

It keeps every plastic baggie in its place and prevents the “spring-load” effect where boxes jam the drawer shut (so frustrating!).

Corral Ziploc Boxes in Plastic Bins

Use clear plastic bins to corral boxes of ziplocs in your pantry or cabinet.

Stand the boxes on their end so you can see the size and type of bag.

This not only keeps the food storage bags contained but also allows you to see when it’s time to restock at a glance.

Cabinet Door Racks

Install racks on the back of the pantry door or inside of cabinet door to store food storage bags efficiently.

These racks can accommodate various sizes of plastic baggies, keeping them out of sight yet easily accessible in a genius way.

This method for organizing food storage bags is a great option for small kitchens since it makes use of otherwise dead space.

Maximizing Small Spaces

For those with limited kitchen real estate, think vertically for ziploc bag organization.

Over to You

Being intentional about how you manage Ziploc storage bags in your kitchen and home will help you maintain a more organized home and kitchen space you’ll love.
